I'm at Miramar, about 45 min south. Why can't you bring your car? The auto hobby shop at Pendleton is supposed to be pretty good.

Yep actually i read an article on it in Marine corps times..
Cool to see a fellow Devil Dog on here, ill probably passing by miramar. Got a bunch of buddies out there, Ill look you up

As for bringing my car... First off, im hearing conflicting reports concerning emissions standards. In florida we have no emissions testing and so I have no longer have any emissions equipment. It would be serious bucks to make it emissions legal again. In addition, there is no way I can drive it cross country. So i dont know how I could get it over other than trailering it or getting somee company to transport it (big bucks). Its looking pretty grim for me getting it over there in otherwords especially considering that I dont have POV orders

I'll see what I can find out for you about emissions and transport. Maybe I can con my friend into dragging a car with him sometime, but its not likely. He may have a hard time leaving enough space in the trailer for a car and being 3500lbs light on the load to take it with him. I'll ask anyway.

I know for a fact you dont have to change the plates from Florida plates. I cant remember though if you get stuck with having to at least be in compliance with federal emissions laws or not.

The hobby shop there is ok. I havent been to many others so I cant really comment if its alot better than others or the same. It is pretty much set up like a repair shop though, but when I was there checking out tools was a real PITA.

Pablo, I don't know what the military does about transport of personal vehicles, but they might pay for moving it out for you. As far as emissions standards go, only cars registered in Calif are subject to emissions testing. As long as you are in the military, you can keep the car registered in your home state.

OK, Here's the scoop about military vehicles. You can keep your car registered in FL as long as it's your home of record. Unfortunaty, to get a base sticker, you have to comply with state emissions requirements. Keep your FL tags and you only have to pass federal standards, but you have to have all the emissions installed. I was in the exact same boat as you and had to put ALL the emissions back on mine. There's plenty of junk yards around here so it was no problem getting what I needed. Only cost me about $150 including a new cat. Why don't you have POV orders?? Are you going to be perminantly stationed in Pendleton? If you get POV orders you can make out pretty good on travel and per-diem. E-mail me and I'll give you my info for when you get in to town.
