I have bilstein's shocks on both of my cars(92 Firebird & 86 Monte Carlo) and the ride is firm so the handling is much better on most of the road except poorly maintained ones.

It's probably another one of those questions where everyone answers with "It depends on what you want" or "It depends on how much you want to spend". I'll try and keep away from that. Here's what I know:
Koni Yellows are from $500-$600 for 4
they are adjustable and are the firmest you can get. (except custom) The ride is rough, but I like it. Good for everything from street driving to road racing.
Bilsteins are from $350 to $500 for 4
they are not adjustable and not as firm as Koni yellows. The ride is a good compromise between ride and handling. They're still good for racing.
Koni Red's are from $450-$550 for 4
They are less firm than the Bilsteins (some say too soft).
More for street use than racing use
Tokico, KYB, Monroe all make good shocks, but they aren't as good or reliable as the ones mentioned above.

well.... the way it looks i am going to get Eibach lowering springs and Bilstein shocks and struts... i would go with Koni... i just don't think there would ever be the need for me to adjust them... and whats the point in spending the money if i would never use them properly!!
