URGENT: upper strut mount removal

i need to pull a mount from a boneyard car, can i just take off the three nuts and the strut nut without having to jack it up or whatever? one yard i called said they have to sell me the whole strut assembly because you need a special tool to keep the strut from flying out.

You should be able to take it out with the car on the ground. The strut may push up but it shouldn't shoot up really fast. You'll need an allen wrench to hold the strut stud still when you back the nut off. Maybe the guy at the yard was thinking you wanted to take apart a coil over? Thats the only thing I can think of that they'd have to sell as an assy. Actually i dont think you could get the strut out of these cars with the mount attached to it, I dont think it would fit up through the hold in the tower.

Incidentially, go to that yard up in clio. They've got like 8 thirdgens sitting there and the guy who owns is it pretty cool. The yard where we got the bumper brackets for my blazer.
