New to suspension, what is a idler arm?

It's the arm that connects the passenger side of the centerlink to the front of the frame. It basically follows the pitman arm (from the steering box), to keep the center link moving in a straight line. Since it's not powered, it "idles". You'd remove the cotter pin from the castellated nut, separate the two with a pickle fork. Then, mark the location of the idler arm on the frame, and remove the arm. Put the new arm in at the same height the old arm was at, connect it to the center link, tighten the castellated nut down to join the joints, and insert a new cotter pin.
Can't describe the balljoint replacement; haven't done that yet.
The Haynes 82-92 Firebird manual (Pep Boys) shows photographs of the front suspension, and tells you how to replace each piece.
