I think I have coil-overs....

When I was switching out my rims today, I noticed that the rear shocks had a spring on the outside of them, wrapped around them. Are these coil-overs? What is the difference between them and regular shocks? Better or worse? They were either blue with yellow springs, or yellow with blue springs...don't exactly remember at the moment.

umm coilovers have a sleeve that is adjustable it should be aluminum kinda look like a screw on the inside of the spring and the shock does go on the inside of them.

Those sound like the old overload shocks--the springs adds a little height and stability if the rear is sagging. If they are coil-overs, you won't have the normal coil spring in the rear. Do you have the regular springs--I'm guessing you do. The shocks you have a probably just a band-aid for worn springs.

Not to mention attaching true coil-overs to the stock upper shock mount would punch a hole right through your floor.
