Steering Gear Box
Does anyone know of another company that does gear boxes other than AGR? I want to add a 12.7:1 box to my 1984 Z28 (don't know if they came with it, mine leaks like a b!tch), but I don't want to pay $320-$350 for the unit. I was told about a place that could rebuild mine to the 12.7:1 box, but they quoted me mid $4xx. Does anyone have any other resource/suggestions. If nothing else I guess I'll have to buy the AGR unit (from summit for $330).
And no, I don't want to get a used one from the junkyard!

i have a gear box for an 84T/A just sitting in my garage collecting dust. my power steering pump took a crap on me so i just went to manual steering...let me know if you are interested in it. i am willing to just get rid of it.

I just saw like seven of them with the quick ratio boxes today in the boneyard here in Phoenix. I had to get one a few years ago, they charged me like $200. don't know if price is the same but worth a shot. You could always go to Checker and order one with a lifetime warranty, and turn on your slow ratio box as the core. Just my 2 cents.
p.s. the boneyard is called Grand auto parts if nobody else has them.

George! Long time no see! I was just talking about the strut tower brace I got from you 2-3 years ago on the carb board.
Anyhow, I can't recommend AGR. I'm on my second AGR box, and it has a noticeable dead spot in the center. My first one had something wrong internally that allowed the pitman arm shaft to deflect noticeably from vertical. Not good quality control if you ask me.

I don't know the price but I have had my eye on this one for a while!

99Hawk120, I was a little apprehensive about AGR, your experience cofirmed my suspicions.
I will try to rebuild mine (kit costs like $20 IIRC), if that doesn;t work I will have mine rebuilt by a local place (recommened to me).
(Obtw, did you see my post after which ... nice hearing from you too.
