shocks & struts....

My 91Z has 87k on it, time for shocks and struts, the factory stuff is still on there.

I'd LIKE to use KYB Gas-a-just, but they only make them for the rear, I'd have to use GR2's on the front. That's . I don't want to mismatch front and rear.

Anyone know of a company that makes quality high-pressure monotube shocks for the third gens? I don't care in the least about adjustability, (nor do I care to pay over $100 per strut, that's crazy), I just want a good quality strut.

I woudln't even be posting this if KYB just made a gas-a-just for the front! Grr.

Funny you should say that. The GR2s are matched to the Gas A Just rears. That's what a lot of guys are running on their cars and the exact set I just bought. The GR2 rears are reportedly "too stiff" and the Gas A Justs are"just right". Feel comfortable about buying them. Do a search on the topic and you'll get plenty of feedback from others.

i never understood that, because KYB seems to position the "GR2" as a oem quality replacement, a *softer* shock than the gas-a-just.

KYB lists the gas-a-just as "for drivers who want high performance handling and response"

and the gr-2 as a "smooth, comfortable ride with excellent control for drivers who are looking for maximum ride comfort"

bizarre. those quotes came straight from KYB's site.

considering there IS no other choices anyways (monroe, gabriel, no thank you) i'll have to go with the kyb gr2/gas-ajust combo unless someone mentions something else!

You could always drop more cash on some Konis or Bilsteins and you'd be all set. I've read the KYB write up, but I'm basing my decision on 2 things: Reports from other people on this site who are totally happy with their KYBs, and out of pocket cost. I will be running on Eibachs now so I really don't need a stiff shock, the springs do that. Eventually, I will step back up to my factory Bilsteins, but I just dropped a lot of cash on my 1LE setup, springs, and other parts. A total of $175 shipped for new shocks and struts (www.tirerack.com) and I'm perfectly happy.

You don't need high compression, but you had better have a hole lot of rebound with stiff springs otherwise its Dong.....Dong.....Dong.....down the road and through the corner and into the woods to grandmothers house we go- if you get my drift.

i just had the KYB shocks and struts installed today along with the Eibach pro-kit, I'll let you know they are, I also purchased them from Tirerack, like someone else stated they're the best bang for the buck.

I wanted to have some control over how my front end was damped so when I upgraded the FE1 springs to WS6 I installed KYB AGX's and I'm very happy with them. I love being able to completely change the way the front end behaves by just popping the hood and turning a simple adjustment. I've got Gas-a-Justs in the back and I'm very happy with them. The car behaves consistently from the front to the back.

If you want to get an idea of what you are up against, check out my sig. and the link to see everything. I have just done the rear so far, the front is tenatively schl'd for this weekend.
