1LE washer question
1LE washer question
I'm installing the front 1LE's with all GM parts.
Does the bolts that go into the spindle get washers? These are the bolts that hold the angle bracket to the spindle. I have washers that fit these bolts. But on Dan's page, he doesn't seem to have washers. these bolts have loctite "built in".
also, the bolts that hold the caliper carrier to the above bracket... do they get washers? I don't have any washers for them.
thanks
Larry
soon to have a 1LE duplicate with a/c

ok, I'm confused with my bolts
The bolts without the washers are designed to go in to the spindle and NEVER come out. But they don't have have built-in locite.
The caliper carrier bolts that go into the bracket have locite, but these bolts must come out every time you want to pull the rotor
why should there be locite on these bolts???
don't make sense to me....
also what is the above torque to these bolts.
PS: the 89 FSM got these brakes all wrong. They show the 1LE brakes with the dust shield and ears on the spindle. They don't show the bracket that bolts to the spindle. you would figure with the TTA in 1989, the FSM would be correct with these brakes. no torque list either......

The adapter to spindle bolts are torqued to 89 lbs ft without washers.
The caliper carrier to adapter bolts are torqued to 137 lbs ft with the heavy washers GM# 10268875.
I am putting all of this info and much more on a CD which will be released in July.
Thanx,ANDYZ28

Larry, sent you mail...
Maybe I was a bit off on the torque spec
Andy, I just checked you site and found that out. Please put me down for one.
I understand the change per your last message. You coming down for the Camaro Nationals Aug 1-4? Mooresville, NC

Andy,
so every time you want to pull the rotors, you have to torque bolts to 137 ftpds ?? not to mention breaking the torque of 137 lbs. crazy !
and I'm assuming they should be loctited down, because the factory bolts are pre-loctited......
Do the caliper pins go up or down? I have to decide which caliper carrier goes R/L
Larry
almost there

Per the parts/illustration manual pic from the CD rom version, looks like they go up:

cool pic !!!, very informative !!! thx.
however, They go DOWN.
If you look at the pads, the cut-out for the pin is down.
Then you look at the parts list, and they show 2 pins for 91......
when I got my parts, I just ordered all my parts for the 89 TTA.
thx

My bad.. right answer, wrong question. The pins are on the bottom on the BAER setup as well.
