would a front and rear driveshaft safety loop be a good idea for street use??

would a front and rear driveshaft safety loop be a good idea for street use??

I plan on ordering a torque are and was wondering if a front and rear safety loop would be a good idea for a car that will see more street use than strip?? Although the car is still equiped with stock power, it won't be for long. Once the suspension is done the engine work begins but I want to be prepared for the power she'll be putting out, and no I'm not talking about rebuilding the stock 305. I'm just wondering if I'm being a little over cautious??

front for sure would be good. i don't think nhra requires them for any class of drag racing on the rear, but my rule books i nthe garage. for the front i'm thinking the loop has to be within 6" of the transmission tail shaft.

Correct. 6" from the front u-joint. There is a specification about ET and slicks but all cars going to the strip should have a front loop. It prevents the driveshaft from dropping and digging into the ground which can pole vault a car.

It's not going to hurt anything if you have one on the street. I have a front one on my truck. With the amount of torque it produces it's good insurance against a failed u-joint.

You don't have to have one on the rear but if you can fabricate one to allow the driveshaft clearance as it moves up and down with suspension travel go for it. If the rear u-joint breaks while under power the driveshaft will just drop and bang around on the ground. There is a chance that it could come up through the floor if you're going fast enough before the driveshaft falls out of the tranny.
