I bought a 9" bolt in rear from Moser and I also got the wilwood brakes. The other day, a guy on this site told me that the 9 bolt borg warner disc brakes will fit on the 9" rear. He said he knew it would but didnt know exactly how. Has anyone done this or know how? This will save me like 700 dollars. Thanks

The 9 bolt B-W rears came with two different types of brakes. The early cast iron calipers style (Delco-Moraine) and the later PBR type. The later style is much more desirable.

If you are going to all the trouble of installing a Moser rear. I would suggest installing the GM PBR type rear brakes.

Andy when you say the later PBR brakes, what do you mean? Do I just need the calipers and pads? Can I use the existing rotors and backplates from my 9 bolt. If so, what year calipers and pads do I ask for when I call the parts store? They sent me the wilwood big ford disc brakes with 2.50 offset. The brakes cost 675 including parking brake. If I can use what I have, Ill save that money for other mods. Can I use my parking brake too? Do you have any pics on how to use these brakes or any more suggestions? Thanks

I have a Moser 9" with stock disk brakes. I had to take the backing plates to a machine shop and get them to bore them out to a certain depth(Instructions should say exact measuments.). Then I had to drill 4 new holes in them to bolt them to the housing ends(Major pain). The metal is very thick, and not easy to drill through. But it worked.

If you do what 89Z28 said, you should be fine installing the Iron caliper style brakes.

Let me see if I can get this straight!

1) You bought a Moser rear, and they sent you the wilwood brakes that fit it?

2) But the brakes don't fit?

3) And so you want to adapt the brakes from a pre'89 9bolt rear onto the Moser rear?

4) You want to do this because the Wilwood brakes don't fit, or to save money? Or both?

5) I would not want to install the old style iron caliper brakes on any rear, nevermind a nice new Moser rear. But that's just my opinion. Aparently these old style rear brakes can be Qutie troublesome.

I would try to install the '90-'92 PBR type brakes. It is not too difficult, stock replacement parts would then be easy to obtain. The parking brake problem would automatically be solved. There are many other advantages to this.

Just a thought.

What would I need to buy to install these 90-92 brakes? Do I need calipers, rotors, and pads? Will my existing parking brake work? How about a backing plate? Will this just bolt in or do I need to machine things? Im installing rear today.

Same exact thing I did on my GTA. PITA, but it works fine.

I am about ready to buy a Moser. I have rear drums. I might as well convert to discs. What backing plates will Moser provide? What year brakes do I need? Anyone have a pic of the PBR ones? Did these come on an 89?

Hold the horses, here's your dilemna...

When you ordered the 9" rear from Moser, they asked you what brakes you were installing...you said I'm going with Wilwoods, correct?

Well, the Wilwoods use a Ford housing end, they don't make Wilwoods for a thirdgen style housing end.

If your rear was built with the Ford housing ends you have to install the Wilwoods, you're not gonna be able to mount 9 or 10 bolt thirdgen disc brakes.

You are right steve. I overlooked that the whole time til just know. I just ended up going with the wilwood brake system that I bought. On the other hand, they told me that there was no way possible to fit the 9 bolt brakes on the rear. They did not make a bracket for them. Either way, I installed the wilwood brakes and they look great. It's better not to do things half a** anyway.
