brake pad recommendations

Hey...I looked through the last few pages of threads, and couldn't find a thread like this (although im sure there are countless ones like it in here somewhere)

Anyway, I need to replace the front disc brakes on my 89 RS...What pads would you guys recommend...I am looking for ones that are affordable but offer slightly better performance then stock.

Thanks

Performance Friction Carbon Metallic. They will cost you around $35 at Auto Zone and come with a lifetime warranty.

Personally I was not happy with the PFCMs. They seemed to not stop too good when cold and dusted like all get out. I ran them on my '93 4x4.

I'm running EBC Greenstuff pads (www.tirerack.com) on my Iroc and love them. They have a higher friction coefficient than most street pads so they'll stop you real good. Mine stops like an animal. Also look into Raybestos Quiet Stop ceramic pads. I just put these on my wife's Honda and are happy with them. No noise and no dust since they're ceramic.

HTH....

Yep. For the first mile or so, you gotta be careful. And thats usually when someone cuts me off and I need the brakes the most.

I've never had a problem with the PFCM's. No cold stop problems for me. I've heard the "Z" rated PFCM's don't stop well cold.

Funny thing, like Bret mentioned, I do like the PFCM Z-Rated pads. That's what I went with on my '93 4x4 and I love them so far. They grab a lot quicker than the carbon-metallics do.

I'm using perfromance friction carbon metallics also. The hotter they get, the better they seem to work. Although I agree that they aren't great when cold, they still brake better cold than the ones the car had on before at any temp.

I recently installed Hawk pads on the rear of my car and so far I'm happy with them.

I thought that there might be something wrong with the brakes on my 91 z28 1LE. I put in new semi metallic pads and it stopped better than the last set but I have had 2 emergency stops and narrowly missed the other car. When I stamped on the brakes the pedal would come to a stop but the wheels would not lock up, like the car was over powering the brakes. If these semi metallic pads take time to warm up then it might account for the car not stopping as quick as I think it should.
Justins86bird is right someone always pulls out near my home. So I might change over and try EDC Greenstuff if they are good cold and hot.
Anyone else tried these?

I have never heard of them really, sorry. I think i'll go with the Hawk pads since that is what is used on the new Corvettes, i think it would be good enough for me.

What are hawk pads and where do ya get them. How many comnpounds does performance friction make?

Did you guys bed the pads in correctly?? Take her up to speed (80-90) and slam the brakes on without locking them to about 40 mph. Do that a couple of times. Then drive around awhile without using them alot to cool them. This is what TPIS reccomends

Sorry for the delay in my response, I've been on vacation.

I really like the EBCs so far. They dust a little more than I expected them to, but I haven't washed the car since I got it finished. They grab great cold and warm. I don't think I've gotten them "hot" though, I haven't driven it that hard to get them real hot. As far as panic stops, I could go thru the windshield if I tried to. They grab really well, but I do have the 1LE setup tho, so that helps out a lot, and I haven't had any fade at all during extended braking periods. I really like the pads, and recommend them.
