Help me decide on tires!!!
I am a college student, (not a lot of money if you didnt already figure that out.) I have been running the Firehawk sz50's for almost 14 months now. The front tires are rounded on the outside and there is not a lot of tread left almost an inch inward now. So what shall i do?????? I have looked at the Kuhmo 712's, they are 85 each, from tirerack. They seem to be the best tire for cheap. Do you guys know of any other tires that would be comparable to my Firehawks without spending a ton of cash?? I could probably go to about 100 a tire. A little more if i have to. Also, I want a tire that will wear really well so i dont have to buy tires again so soon. Any suggestions are welcome, I just wanted to see what you guys thought from experience and such. I dont want to buy a bad set of tires and be stuck with them..... Thanks for your help, I am leaving for work right now, but I thought i would get this started before i left, and i wil catch up with you guys later.

I've been happy with my Kumho's. Any Z rated tire is going to wear faster than a touring tire, but performance is the trade off. The Kumho's seem to have good wet traction and good cornering ability.
I've also pulled of a consistant 1.90s 60' time with the stock rear suspension. My best so far is a 1.871, so I know they do good in straight line traction.

Cool, the Kuhmo's i am looking at are WR rated, will they balance grip with good wear??? Another question, is there any advantage to going wider or lower profile??? Like maybe 255 wide and 45 while staying 16 inch?? Will it look better or worse?? Perform better or worse. Anyone else have experience with these Kuhmo's???

for the money, I have heard nothing but good things about the Kumho's. Unless your car is lowered, going with a 45 series profile might leave a little extra room in the wheel well. If you are more about handling than looks, then go for it!

Just Got mine...
Today. I ordered 4 Kumho 712's, all shipped for 380 bucks, you can't beat that. I got 225/50's up front and 255/50's out back. Gives a really mean stance cause the front tires sidewalls go straight up while the rears are bubbled.

The tires that were on my car when i bought it, were 255/45/16 radial vipers. they are awsome tires, they dont leave black marks unless you really hammer it. they get good traction and look mean, there wide and have that aggressive look. just my 2 cents

Before my Kumhos,I have tried Michelin Pilot XGTs,Dunlop 5000s,and the Firehawks. I tried the Kumhos one time and have been using those ever since because of the price and performance. They seem to grip just a little better than Michelins. And the Firehawks I had wouldn't stick unless they were heated up a little. The Kumhos have worked well dry and wet and run a lot cheaper than the other brands.
