Non-PBR caliper question (Clicking Noise)
Non-PBR caliper question (Clicking Noise)
Any one else get clicking noises from their brake pads when driving down the road- hitting bumps- without the brake pedal depressed?
I have always been able to reach into my wheels and jiggle the pads around in the calipers to get this clicking noise. Was wondering maybe if its the pads I run. They could have more slop or play in them than other brands do.
It is only the piston side pad of course, the backside pad is held in place with the clips.
The fronts have always clicked a little and I always had rear drums on this car. Recently I switched to 4-wheel disc and have the clanking coming from the rears too. They are all brand new calipers, pads, rotors and lines --everything stops great, its just the noise when the brakes are not pressed.

yes, yes, yes. It is not making a noise when I press the brakes. Please reread my post.
What I am asking is if others have the same JIGGLE with the outer pad in the caliper. the pad has alot of movement and will travel up and down making a clicking sound against the caliper when I hit a bump in the road.
Again , I'm asking other peple that have the same Iron calipers if the pads thay are running have the same amount of jiggle and make the clicking or clanking sound when you drive. Its not a very loud noise but it is enough to bug me. I don't like any rattle noises coming from my vehicles.
My thoughts are that the pads I have been running for several years maybe have more play in the backing plate positioning tabs than do other brands. I run Stillen Carbon-Matrix pads and am wondering if the stock pads or maybe EBC or Hawks do this as well.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have the same clicking coming from my car. i figure it has to be the pads because mine also stops when I put on the brakes. I have changed pads twice and both times I have been able to move the pads around a little. It is very annoying, I would also like to know if anyone knows how to stop this.

My pads click loud as hell. I have used the same brand of pads for years without any movement of the pads. But this last set move so much and clicks really loud at low speeds and is annoying the **** out of me.
My thoughts are next time I replace the pads, I will first apply a small amount of high temp. permatex (gasket maker) to the ears of the pad backing plate. There are the two top small ears that bend 90* outward, and then the longer bottom ear that also bends outward. If i allow the permatex to dry a day before I install them I think the high temp stuff should stay on it.

.The permatex is represented by the O's. The ears are what retain the pad against the caliper and are what make the clicking noise when the pad moves back and forth against the caliper.
I am keeping in mind that too much permatex and the pad wont fit into the caliper- just a small amount- alittle more than 1/16" of permatex on each side.
Thats my best attempt to draw a brake pad. Frikin computers

my car makes that sound, there is just some free play in the pads.
it is okay to drive like this, i have driven like this for over a year, so calm down.
your problem is not big but you can fix it somehow. but i would like to figure out how to fix mine.

i was just telling you to calm down. many of the posts that you made on this thread had a anxious sound to them. wasn't trying to be a "mental giant" or whatever. also i wasn't too sober at the time.
