calipers rubbing on my wheels

I have a pair of 79 snowflake wheels on my 82 trans am.

I just installed an 89 9 bolt with pbr rear calipers. The little fins rub on the inside of my wheels. They are 15 x 7 I think. They could be wider like 15 x 8's or so. Can I just shave off the fins right where the caliper has that bend? I know they are for heat disipation, but I don't care. I don't want to have to buy new wheels. could I spacer them out. I figure that would make the wheels not rub on the calipers, so I figure I could have a nice bull dog stance also.

donesn't anyone else have old trans am wheels with a newer 9 bolt??? I have never heard this being addressed before.

The backspacing isn't correct fot those wheels and those brakes. You could try and run a set of small spacers before you go grinding on your calipers, that would push the wheels out a bit, possibly enough to stop them from rubbing.

where can I buy the correct spacers. Ed? Should I try to make my own? What about putting wide washers around the studs on the axle?

If not, what size spacer should I need? will a 1.75" work?

Use GM part# 14091902 They are approx. 1/8" thick. Get only one and try it first. The spacer is steel, not aluminum.

I got a set of these spacers with the '89 9 bolt I bought, and my '91 RS with a drum rear also has a set on it. You could probably find them in a scrap yard, a 3rd gen parts seller, or just buy them from GM. They can't be that expensive.

I just added some really wide washers on to the studs. It can't be good, but I check the lugs all the time. The rim still rides on the hub, and the lugs go on all the way. I don't know what else could cause a problem, but I think I am okay now.

I have driven on it for the past 2 days, with out a problem. The thing is when I notice a problem, it will probably be to late.

What do you guys think

They are the standard thickness washer, and I used two per stud. like I said the wheel is still on the hub, and I don't see any wear.

Am I safe?
