Koni reds or yellows?
Anybody tell me which one is better for a street car.How do they compare etc. Thanks
Hello Europe!
Red or yellow are both ok for the street!
The yellow ones are adj.!
The yellow ones also came on the 1LE 4th gen as stock units!
Use the red if you have 15" rims take the yellow if 16 and up is your rim size!
The yellow ones are firm, if you still have the gm units in there ......swap to KONI!
If you wanna get firm skip the red ones!
When we bought rancho units i first thought the shock was used, but again speeding in the USA with 55 miles, i guess you only need those cheap a.. gabriels !
As we do speed offic. up to ...no speedlimit...take the yellow ones and smile!
We just got a rear red unit for a member with a 85 Firebird!

My reds are adjustable. The fronts came with a slip on ****, too. What I don't like about the reds are the lack of distinct stops or clicks. Twist the **** or in the case of the rears twist of the wrench. I don't know if the yellows are set up the same way or not.

I have the reds as well and they are adjustable, I thought the yellows were not adjustable. I was also told that I shouldnt get the yellows on a daily driven car as they are way to firm.

I'm running yellows in the front and reds in the back. The softer setting of the reds should alow better planting of the rear end when coming out of corners. I got this setup because TireRack screwed up, but several veteran autocrossers thought this may be better setup. I've run them all year and cann't complain.
Both Koni Specials (red) and Sports (yellow) are adjustable. Both adjust only rebound. Double adjsutables have to be made out of singles and are not available off the shelf for a 3rd gen.
Basically the bottom 1/3 of the range on a yellow is akin to the top 1/3 of the range on a Red. The bump setting is very close on both, and again not adjustable.
No Koni fronts have clicks on the rebound adjuster, only one Koni for a 3rd gen (out of 3 available) has clicks.
'Tis true that Koni yellows came on the 4th gen 1LE, but they are TOTALLY different shocks both front and rear than the 3rd gen units. Completely different valvings (and in the case of the front the whole design itself).
I've run them all. Bilstein, Koni's (both) Tokico's (both)..... I prefer the Bilstein's for both street use and autox. I won a lot of National level events with Bilstein on my cars..
