Strut braces??? please look

what is the quickest way to get strut braces off???

i found a 92 z28 and a 91 ws6 ta and they both have low miles so i'm trying to get the braces off since mine are worn. i removed the 4 bolts holding the plate to the tower; but the strut just spins when i try to move the main bolt!

what is the best and quickest way to rip these out of the car?

also, how would i go about taking one apart?

i'd like to have them chrome plated and i've been told they must come apart. anyone know of a type of shop that would do such a thing or where i could find out how to do it myself if it's possible. gm wants like 350 a pair for these bad boys so i'd like to get them out if possible...

well you might need to use like some kinda clamping devise to hold the shaft of the strut from moving.. to get that main bolt off..

you have to cut the nut off

cut few of its sides off and eventually it will fall apart, new struts come with new nuts anyway

If they're the stock struts, you should have a 10mm hex pattern on the top of the strut rod. Loosen it up like this:

Ed

PS: The KYBs I installed had an Allen wrench hole in the top of the new strut. See my page for other shots of strut install and removal.

I believe they are spot welded together.

If you have an impact wrench, you can just loosen them with that.
