SFC question

Ok I have a set of SFCs in the house ready to put in the car they are CEs weld ins. well a buddy that is a mechanic says he would put them in the car for me. the only thing he said that got me is that you need to take out the seats and the carpet before you weild anything to the car. says his old Z caught on fire and it was a PITA to put it out. I don't want that happening to me but I never heard that before. is it possible?
thanks
biker

depending where they weld, or where you weld them you may want to pull the carpet back. i use a windex bottle with water to keep everything cool. have someone "fire watch" while you weld them in.

Risk it getting burned up or go the safe route and pull the seat out and move the carpet. Little extra time-------safe way. I have the bolt in ones and to me they are great. Very well built.

I had a shop weld in my new Alston's, and we did not move the carpet or seats. When he welded, he welded in small amounts and let the metal cool before he kept going. If you want to be safe, or dont know how well he welds, I would take the extra time and move the carpet, IMHO.
