Want to delete my power steering

In the continued modification of the engine bay, I want to get rid of my power steering too. I have heard of people using non - power steering assist boxes from an S-10 pickup I think it was. Does this sound right? Anybody have any information regarding this topic?

A manual box from a 4 cylinder S10 is a direct bolt-in. You may have to remove or modify the front sway bar for clearance. The S10 pitman arm can be used but the angle is slightly different. The third gen pitman arm is a better choice.

Using a manual box saves off a lot of weight. Driving on the street isn't that bad except sharp slow moving turns such as in a parking lot. There is also more turns required from stop to stop.

I don't recommend using a manual box if you have wide front tires.

Thanks, Stephen thats exactly what I needed to hear. The weight savings and the extra room are just what I need. I will keep the standard 245/45 tires and just fight it in the parking lots I guess. I don't really mind that much anyways because this car is definately not a daily driver. Only sees the roads on a sunny warm weekend day!

Mike, are you interested in selling your p.s. gear box? If you are, if it is the high effort low ratio box I may be interested in it. The box I am looking for is 2 turns lock to lock. Thanks, Dave

They should be fine but you'll only know if you drive it.

Dave, yes I would sell it if you are interested. I will not be back home until next Monday, so I won't know until then if it is the exact box you are in search of. When I check it out I will let you know.
