Air suspension again! Has anyone tried these?
I am seriously thinking of fitting air bags to my 1986 show car SC in the next few weeks. And, yes, I have been following the forum chat on this type of suspension. It will not be an every day driver, so perfection is not really required.
Has anyone tried these yet?

Thanks for any replies.
Andy.

I have this knack for digging up old posts don't I
Anyhow, I too am interested in air ride for the rear such as this kit. I want the classic musclecar look when I'm done. You know, cowl hood, big 'n littles, and a rear end that is jacked up a couple of inches. This is my main concern... straight from their FAQ page.

Q. Can air springs raise or lower my vehicle?
A. If you're asking if the air spring can take the place of a lift kit or a lowering kit, the answer is NO. If you're asking if the air spring will cause a normal ride height vehicle to ride higher, the answer is yes if you want it to. By adjusting the air pressure, you can create some lift, but usually only an inch or two.

I don't really see 1" of lift in the rear giving me that look or the performance side-effects with it?!? I am not familiar with air ride systems, but I did find an old photo of my dad's '71 Chevelle SS that had air in the rear with it jacked up about 3". It looked badass, and hooked (so says my dad) as well. Anyone care to comment??? I'd love to be educated in such things and offered ideas/alternatives to the kit presented in Andy's post.

Looks like a good well thought out kit to replace the factory springs with air bags.
Don't forget the extras you'll need to buy. Air compressor and all the extra stuff required to use it.

(laughs) That's funny; I've run air shocks in the back since '94, and I'm looking to dump them this summer - I love the look, but it's time for change. I'm somewhat dating myself with the bigger rear tires and air shocks. Last December, I got rid of the P275/60r15 rear tires for some P245/60r15's... and this summer, when I redo the whole suspension, the car's getting lowering springs.
You can see a side shot of my car, the blue Firebird, in these shots where I helped my buddy do an engine swap in his Camaro: http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen

Hey Tom, what kind of air suspention are you running in the rear? and how much $$$ did it cost? It looks like you've got at least 3" of lift there and that's probably what I'm looking for.

I mentioned it in my post above... but I'll mention it again; air shocks. Gabriel Hi-Jackers, $60 each. They're murder on the upper shock mount, though. Do a for "air shock mount" and you'll get quite a few messages, a few of them in which I detail how I fixed it.
