i just installed a new gear/hoses/pump on a 92 rs.

while driving on a straight road, and wiggling the wheel left to right (moving from dotted line to curb) there seems to be a "dead" spot , could there still be air in the lines?

the cars in for a new hood and bumper so i cant look at it til next week, looking for ideas.

how many miles?? i would replace your ball jionts...sounds like play in the steering. but yes i would check the lines for air first

 

i replaced the entire front end - balljoints,idler,centerlink,tie rods, struts, eibach springs etc. + rear.

SFC'c and wonderbar are next week.

How does one go about bleeding or burping the steering system? I've head it help if there is some slop in your steering, but I dont know what is involved.

 

To bleed the system you run the engine and turn the wheel from side to side all the way a couple of times. That's it.

Air in the system will not cause play. Most likely if the gear and everything else is "new", you probably need the rag joint in the steering column.

 

The rag-joint is the part that nobody seems to be able get in the correct size right? Is there a GM part # for the correct one?

My car is a 92. I'm assuming that it is like part 17 in the first pic and part 13 in the second. at gmpartsdirect.com that part # doesnt bring any results.
