For some reason, I can't figure out how to get the torque arm out. I'm working on pulling my motor and tranny, with the tranny still bolted to the motor. And i can't figure out how to get the torque arm off where it's bolted to the tailshaft housing to open up the clamshell type thing. This is like all i've got left to do. I tried dropping the tranny a little bit, but the torque arm won't let it go down enough for me to unbolt it. It's got a bolt with a nut on the other side, I don't know if that's factory, but to me, it's annoying. Please help, i'm getting frustrated!!

Also, does anyone know how to get the knock sensor connection off? I can't seem to get it, I heard that if you push the sides in it will come off, but It's not being very nice to me.

The long bolt that goes through the tailshaft has nothing to do with the torque arm. There are 2 bolts that are a major PITA to undo, think they are both 13mm or 1 13mm and the other a 10mm, can't remember. There will be a little tension on the torque arm, so don't have a finger between the tunnel and the arm when you get the bracket off, might cause a slight pinch. The bolts are on the very top of the bracket up in the actual tranny tunnel on the drivers side. The knock sensor should come off as stated, might have to finagle it a little more. Good luck.

 

The forward end of the torque arm just slides into the front mount. Since you're trying to pull the engine and tranny at the same time, you should be able to just pull it right off the torque arm.

The proper way to remove the torque arm is to unbolt it from the diff first and pull it backwards off the front mount.

I had the same problem you have when I pulled my torque arm off the install a spohn one. Since I wasn't keeping anything I just used a torch and cut those bolts on the back of the tranny.

 

yeah the torque should slid out from the torque arm mount on the tranny..
thats what happened when i took my engine out of my 88 camaro.

maybe a small screwdriver or two can help get that knock sensor off.

 

IIRC, there's a lip on the bottom of the outside part of the clamshell thing that clips in and then the top is held by a bolt, remove the bolt and the clamshell comes apart.

 

i never had a problem getting my torque arm off. just unbolted it and slowly let it raise to the top of the undercarriage. as for the knock sensor, yes just squeze in on both sides of the plastic and pull. it should come off easily.
