break fluid change

my break fluid is about black and i want to change it. i've done it on motorcycles before but have never done it on a car. the way i do it on a bike is hold the brake, open the valve(with a clear hose on it). close the valve when the petal is compressed most of the way and do it a few more times untill there is enough in the hose and then just pump it out and keep filling it up untill it is changed. is it much different on a car? i wouldn't think it is much different because its mostly the same setup except a lot bigger.

just like bleeding brakes in a normal procedure...

what i did first was to draw out, remove, the fluid in the reservoir, clean the reservoir (just wipe it out, q-tips in the hard to get to spots). put you some fresh fluid in, bleed it thru the right rear, left rear, right front, left front - til you're all done. only pain about it is to make sure you keep fluid in the system so you don't "bleed it dry" while you're doing it. you'll need a couple of bottles to flush it out...

With the larger volume of car brake components you likely won't be able to do that trick of letting the hose fill with fluid and just pump the pedal. You will probably have to open the bleeder - depress the pedal - close the bleeder - release the pedal - repeat. The end result is the same.

Oh, and go to the F*rd dealer and get some of their HD fluid. Best fluid for the dollar out there and MUCH better than anything at the local parts store.
