Just Starting Out
Just Starting Out
I've just about finished stripping down my Z-28, and the time to put it all back together is coming.
Based on the fact i plan to be doing some autocrossing and road racing in this car, as well as having it as a daily driver, and also on the fact i know next to nothing about our stock suspension, what kind of suspension and chasis modifications should I be looking into to start myself off.
So far I figured I should start off wioth SFC's, springs, shocks, sway bars, bushings, and tires.
What other components should i be looking into?
What are the benifits of new LCA's, A-Arms, torque arms, etc?
I don't know how they work and as a result, can't figure out their benifits.
Also my father has brought up an interesting question. How would the weight of a 350 when compared to the weight of a 305 affect the balance and handling of the car? I Have both in my garage right now, and am trying to decide which to build up.
(my sig lies, i havn't started the buildup on the 350 yet)
I'm looking more for handling than comfort in the long run.
:hail:Thanks for any advice you can give me.:hail:

It is my understanding that a 305 and a 350 weigh about the same. An aftermarket torque arm will help you plant the tires harder and can also leave some adjustibility on pinion angle to tailor your rear suspension for different conditions. LCA will also help a little with traction; they help keep your rearend positively located in unison with the torque arm. An aftermarket panhard bar is just as helpful and keeps lateral movement of the rearend to a minimum. In terms of A-arms, I am assuming you mean bushings: bushings will also prevent deflection under load just as most the other things you mentioned do. In all, these components will help keep your car more stable under heavy loads (cornering, launching, etc) and allow the tires to keep in contact with the road as much as possible. Whew, what a mouthful...
Good luck!!! HTH
