bad braking

i just got an 83 trans am for pretty cheep. the brakes could be heeps better. the pedal is real stiff and doesn't travel far. not sure about higher speeds but in my driveway and court its hard to slow the car down. could it be too little vaccum to the brake booster? any other suggestions. i'm taking the car to school tomarrow to put it on on lift and check everything out. any ideas would be grweatly appreciated

does it have four wheel disk brakes?
or rear drums...

you might have to much fluid in the resorvior.

If the pedal feels the same as it does when the car is off, you may have a vaccuum leak at the brake booster.

it has rear drums. the pedal is a little easier to push with it running and a ittle better at higher rpms. i'll check for a vaccum leak and i'll check the resivoir
