anyone ever hear of this
anyone ever hear of this:
i went to talk to a guy(wich im friends with) about installing my subframe connectors. he said no problem. then we were talking about the motor swap that i did to my car. he told me that i have to find some thing for the rear shocks. he told me that with the amount of torque that my car has, the rear shocks will end up going through the floor. he said that the rear shock mounts are weak and that when i race, the shocks will go right through the floor and into the back seat.
has anyone here heard of this or have had this happen to them. i've never heard of this, but the guy is smart and has been around for a while and he knows what he is doing.
he said the has seen this happen many times. he said the he used to weld peices of steel around the mounts for extra support.and as i said, this guy really knows his ****. so i really don't think he is
ing me.
is there some sort of after market product that i can get to prevent this from happening. thanks alot for you time.

The rear shock mounts have already broken out of my car. What a POS, it only had about 320,000 miles on it or some such at the time, you wouldn't expect things like that to just up and break. One of them (the right one) broke completely out and was trying to punch a hole in the carpet, the left one was only about ¾ of the way broken out..... I had a couple of big washers welded into each side, with some reinforcement.
But seriously, he's right, sounds like he's been around the block a time or 2. If he's the one welding in your SFCs, and you have the carpet out at the time, get him to do the shock mount thing. All it takes is a couple of about 5/8" fender washers. In fact, if you just take the shocks out and look at where they go, you'll see how weenie that place is.
Like ede said, it's a common thing on 1st & 2nd gen Camaros and Novas such, but on them it's usually the lower shock mount breaking off of the spring clamp.
I can't believe it when people ask on this board if they can jack these cars up with air shocks, and won't take "no" for an answer.

Yup, I will support Robert's statement!
I experienced the same thing, and did the same thing. Probably the torque won't do it by itself, but with the suspension the way it is and works, eventually it will. If it hasn't already.
