POR-15 how to tips please

I got the chance to tire out POR-15. I was wondering for some tips on the best way to use it from people that use it a lot.

When do you put the second coat on? Also I can take a screwdriver and scrap this stuff off after it has cured for a few days. I though this stuff was supposed not scrape off? I followed all the instructions, cleaned the metal with marine clean and soaked it in metal ready.

I've used it a bit, and it's worked great for me!

Make sure the metal is totally dry after cleaning with marine clean and prepping with metal ready. I rinse and dry after using the metal ready.

I apply my second coat when the surface is still slightly tacky. It always seems to take WAAAAAAAY longer than they say for it to dry, perhaps that's why you could scrape it off.

Also, it's not an invincible miracle product, if I gouge mine hard enough, I can scrape it too, but it takes a lot of force.

Same here; that stuff is great. I used the POR-15 "Super Starter Kit" for $20 to cover my rear axle when I swapped it in. It was just enough to give the axle two coats of the stuff.

JUST WEAR GLOVES AND LONG SLEEVES! I had gloves and short sleeves on; wound up getting little black dots on my arms from when the brush's bristles "flicked".

I've used the same method kanuck described. I even stained my garage floor from using the Metal Ready on my rear sway bar... got a nice zinc stain there now. After the marine clean AND after the zinc wash, I wiped the stuff down with small sponges; bought a pack of 10 or so from a food store. Then I let the axle and rear sway bar sit in the sun for a few hours until they were completely dry. Then I hit it with the POR15.

Never tried to scrape it off; but I think the product is supposed to work well with being hit (like by rocks or sand or twigs or small animals).

I used it on every part of my new suspension that wasn't already coated with something else.

I brushed it on since it spreads and coats so damn easy and I don't have a spray gun. I usually sandblast what I coat (wonderbars, sway bars, etc.), wash the parts to get the dust off, spray on the metal ready, and let the parts COMPLETELY dry. OH! Don't forget to wipe off the excess Metal Ready or it won't stick to the metal as well. Apply first coat then wait 3 hours between coats. You can be a little generous with that 2nd coat, it will make it shinier, thicker, and smoother. Then I don't touch the parts for a full day after that.

The stuff WILL scrape off if you try to get it off, but under normal use it will stay on. My chassis looks as clean as the day I put all the parts on. I haven't driven the car in the rain since I did the rebuild.

I love the stuff. I did my utility trailer with it, and now I'm waiting for good weather to do the rest of my SFCs, 2 more rearends, and some other crap.
