Bilstein shocks? Any good?
I was looking at the Lingenfelter website at the suspension stuff. The front shocks on my 88 GTA are blown. I was looking at the Bilstein Gas Pressure HD Shocks. Part # S36-0201. Anybody have these shocks on their car? How do you like them? The price on the site was $159.95. This is for TWO shocks right? Are these things easy to install myself? I have access to an aligning machine too. Thanks for any info! Matt
A recent list of cars that have Bilsteins in my family are as follows
70 Cutlass conv pace car 1 of 150 (sold .
)
81 olds Delta 88 (sold)
85 Cutlass Salon (sold)
81 Cutlass
88 BMW 325i
96 Roadmaster wagon
to name a few
soon to have
85 Z28 (my car
)
Also for info it is a stock shock for police package caprices, most SUV and trucks in GMs line up, and also standard on the Vette as well as I believe the IROC had rear shocks from Bilstein.
Essentially I love Bilsteins and only use Bilsteins and I also highly recommend Bilsteins.
it's just a shame I don't get kickbacks for promoting .....

Sorry to drag this one back as it's covered a couple times, but I had a question not covered.
Well I read a few posts regarding which shocks to use the sport or HD.
I have KYB's in the rear right now, Eibach pro-kit and a couple other suspension goodies.
The ride is REALLY stiff right now, too stiff, and I noticed Lon from top down solutions was able to use the HD shocks with his lowered ride. Do you think it would ease up the harshness of the ride and still provide a better job than the KYB's I have now? Hope that made sense. ..

My 1987 IROC-Z still have the original fastory installed Bilstein's and they are still going strong after 17 yrs, So I would say they are a very good brand for the money (expensive).

Best price I found was in the link above :-)
415$ to my door. They are for my Formula which will have completely new frt and rear suspensions and Eiback springs(evcerythign else new as well)...
More than likely my GTA will be getting bIlsteins this yr too.

Yeah, if you really read into my thread above you'll see how much shipping to Hawaii sucks!!!!lol! But anyways, hopefully the thread helps everyone out & gives an option for a way to purchase Bilsteins & Eibach stuff.

ace - thanks for the link.
So it looks like it is okay to use the Bilstein HD's instead on the Sports.
Did you have trouble getting them in due to the Eibach springs?
I'm hoping the HD's will provide me with a much smoother ride than the Sports or the KYB's I have on now.
