my rears brakes arent working but i think it might be because of leaky booster/low pedal, but i want to be sure that there were no recalls on the rear calipers on a 4 wheel disc 1984 trans am with an AUTOMATIC transmission, im aware of the manual 82-88 recall, but was there any common problem with the a4 calipers? thanx

same problem as the recall, but auto cars were not covered, the recall does fix though, so you need to do the recall fix yourself

I have a 84 TA 4 wheel disc e-break dont work and very soft pedal and when i put the breaks on I get a break light if i pump it 3 times it is better and the light will go out if it is on or wont come on. if I dont pump the pedal the light comes on and little stopping power. At first i thought it was the boster till i started to read the post on the search that i did here. now I am not sure.

im getting ready to spend a lot of money on this problem with my breaks (read previous post) what to you guys think i should do with these breaks. should I fix what i got and where should i start or should i replace the whole system with something more modern. let me know if you can because i am going to start buying parts till it is right this is a every day car and i need breaks asap.

Yep, you need the recall kit. My messages explain it all. Your pads are too far from the rotor, that's why you need to pump the brake a few times- to bring the pads near the rotor- in order to stop.

Just install the recall kit. Remember that "new" rebuilt calipers probably don't have the redesigned pistons in 'em; my rebuilt caliper didn't. If the calipers are shot to hell, buy "new" rebuilt calipers and put the recall kit into the "new" calipers.

While you're at it, replace all those ancient brake hoses with new ones, they're around $25-$30/hose, and well worth it.

If I get my stock breaks better then new will they be good breaks or should I look at upgrading them to something better? The car is only going to be for show and everyday driving, Maybe a couple trips to the strip but just to see what it will do. Well maybe run a riceburner if i have to. Thanks so much for the info

You'd probably be fine if you fix the original rear brakes with the recall kit. But if you can find the 89-92 rear disc brake setup in a junkyard, go with that instead. As to buying aftermarket "brand new", I don't know much about that way, except that it'd be very expensive, and probably overkill for a car that isn't racing the autocross or doing the 1/4 mile in 8 seconds.

The only problem was i went the the dealership to get the kit and they had no idea what i was talking about so I ordered it through that gmparts web site and it was here in a week.
