gear swap question

I currently have a 2.73 open diff rear in my 86 IROC. Im interested in adding a set of take off 3.42 gears and Zexel posi from SLP. I think I'll need a different carrier as well? Basically, what all will I need to do the gear swap, aside from the gears and posi unit?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

if its an 86 you will need new axles from a 90+ that are 28 spline.

you might be better off picking up a 3.42 rear from a 90+ v6, and then putting in the slp take off carrier.

The posi is the carrier.

You will definitely need axles to do it that way. Dewey is right; especially if you have drum brakes (all the 6-cyl cars do), you'll come out cheaper just buying a 3.42 6-cyl rear that already has the right axles and gears, and sticking the SLP unit in there, and swapping the whole thing into your car.
