blown shocks?

Anyone know a sure proof way to tell if you've blown a shock when its not totally aparant by driving of hoping the car with your body? I've got a vibration from the rear thats seems consistant with a shock being bad, I think. It feels bouncy but not all the time. Like if I hit a bump back there it'll catch it and then vibrate fast for like a second then stop. I have a slight vibration at certian speeds but not all the time and only in certian road conditions, and my right rear (I've got posi) seems a bit bouncy on launches but not hoppy. I suspect this because about a week ago I hit an unexpected dip (they were doing sewer work and there were no signs, in the dark, going like 50) that I hit real hard. I didn't notice this before but I didn't notice it right afterwards either, only the next day. My first thought was wheel weight but a quick visual check showed they were still there.

Either I've lost you or confused you by now, right? Anyway any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if it were a blown shock you'd know it by the oil leaking out of it. I'd check bushing and wheel weights

Yep, thats the way my car felt when I bought it. It had 75k on it and the shock/struts were wasted. Not leaking, just worn out. When I pulled them off and opened them up to full extention, then turned it upside down, gravity bottomed it out in two seconds. New shocks make a world of difference. Don't get the Monroes like I did though, too soft.

It only does it at cruising speeds, like 45+. I've got KYB GR2s back there now and theyve got about 12,000 on them now. I'd hate to think that my township's stupid road work, if you live in PA you know about our terrible roads, blew out my shocks. At least they are inexpensive to replace, right?
