Which SFC for my application???

I have a 91 Z28 with single cat. The edelbrock y pipe goes to 3" with a 3" cat and 3" flowmaster american thunder exhaust. Does anyone know what SFC's will weld right in? There are a lot of SFC's out there and I know a lot of people have issues with putting them in. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks!

Being the voice of expierence for SFCs and exhaust clearance problems I'd say go with the Spohn tubular ones. I've got the older style boxed ones and I have all kinds of exhaust clearance problems in the cat and y-pipe areas. Be prepared to cushion the top of the cat with something, it might hit, although Spohn swears it wont.

The spohns seem to be the nicest for the money but here's what worries me....they state that to put them in right, it takes about 3 hours and you have pick up the carpet as well...heres a quote from their site:

"You'll note that we opted to place welds along the length of the inside of the SFC to the floor pan. This requires lifting the carpet. Total installation time to do it "right" as pictured is right around 3 hours. We charge a $150.00 flat rate for installation in our shop"

http://www.spohn.net/index.cfm?fusea...t&contentid=21

My problem is that i don't want to pay hella money to get them put in when there are others out there that can weld right up....and I also don't want to have to go through the trouble of pulling up the carpet especially considering they will have to be installed at a shop.

What do you think?

Pulling up the carpet is a necessary precaution no matter what SFCs you put in. You don't want it to catch fire when the weld heats up the floorpan. I had them welded on at their shop, and with all the work they seemed to cram into the 2-3 hours it took them, it probably would have taken me more like 4-5 hours realistically. They know what they're doing and they know how to put their SFCs in right. The result was like night and day. I'm pretty happy with having them installed at their shop.

I can't remember the name of the SFC's that my buddy just got put on but his just welded right on underneath the frame at both ends of the connectors. Is this less effective?

Also, when you pull up the carpet...do you have to take the seats out too?

trust me it is well worth the hassle to pull the seats.

you also should have to rip all the carpet out, when i did mine we pulled the carpet up, and slid 2x4s under the carpet around where we were welding. but if you are welding on the floor plan , regardless of brand, you are going to want to make sure you don't tourch the interior . . . that would make for one expensive install.

Check out this thread:https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ghlight=alston

I am partial to Alstons, and you should be able to see why when you read that thread.

Do a search for "Alston" and you will get a lot more info on these great SFC's.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

88aziroc...i read the thread and I'm sold. I think those are the kind my buddy bought and he loves them. Also he didn't do anything with the carpet as his welder (who will be doing mine) just did a little bit at a time back and forth and kept cooling it with water.

Thanks a lot!
