What a fun day

I was going to finish removing my rear springs today. I have tried it about 3 times in the past, but the rear end just would not drop.

My friend in his jeep pulls up, so we put some things on it to make it look better, and take about 5 breaks, cause were lazy.

About 3 hours later, I jack up the car, get everything necessary unbolted, and the rear end will still not drop. I can get the old sagged springs out, but the new ebiachs are a bit taller and I cannot get those in.

After about an hour of talking and saying wtf, I noticed a steel cable going from the lower control arm to the frame. I called Mecham Racing and they said its a drop something, and prevents the rear from dropping so the springs don't come out.

So I start to unbolt it at the control arm, and the bolt breaks. So I spend about 30 min trying to get the rusted bolt out. Then I bike 3 miles to the hardware store to get 2 new bolts and nuts. Finally, the rear end drops and I get the springs in, but I notice the driver side control arm is bent. So that’s my next project. Anyone know they are hard to remove?

If you've never removed them before then you have already expierenced how hard it can be. When I changed mine out the passenger side came off no problem, but the driver's side despite being coated in liquid wrench wouldn't budge. If you've got air tools then the bolts sould be fine, once the old ones are out putting the new ones in is easy as pie.

NOTE: When you remove them support the rear of the car with the wheels (ramps or whatever) and do one side at a time. That way you wont have to worry about those springs coming out again or the rear moving around on you Good Luck!

Is that from the factory? I've never seen or heard of that before.

No Mecham Racing did it in their shop. The car left Mecham Racing with lowered springs, so this would prevent them from falling out with the rear of the car jacked up.

Good luck on the install Md. It should be easy on your car. The problems I had on mine were a couple of rusted bolts that broke, and your car does not have this cable I speak of.
