can't tighten top shock mount

I am putting in a new rear and when I go to put the nuts on the top the entire top of the shock turns. How can I best prevent this? use channellocks to grip it? They are the koni red shocks.

is there not a hex section on the very top of the threaded portion?? Usually you can have someone physically hold the shock until you get the nut down far enough to put a backup wrench on the top...
