You can drive it without the p.s.pump.It will be a little tough to turn though.Why would you need a shorter belt if there is no pump there now?

you should be ok. As long as the belt is not on the pump and turning it. You could maybe plug the pump off. Make sure it has fluid in it though.

I have seen people just remove the PS pump and fill the box with gear oil and plug it off. I dont know how good this is, But I have seen it done.

I have been running for 3 months without my belt and other than being tough to turn I have had no problems. I am trying to decide if I want to go manual or if I like the quicker ratio.
