help, brakes making weird noise

when my car has been sitting for a couple of hours, you crank it up and go, the brakes start squealing. until you hit the brakes a couple of times then it eventually goes away. what could this be???? i know that nothing has ever been done to the brakes, maybe need new pads???? the car has about 59k miles on it.

Assuming you have disc brakes all around, the problem is most likely moisture or some other foreign substance on your brake surfaces. Worn or not properly installed brake pads can also squeal.

No matter what, I'd take a close look at the pads/rotors anyway since it seems like a good time to service them.

yeah, i dont know if it matters, but it got a lot worse today. no matter what i did, except hitting the brakes, would make it stop squealing. quess i know what i will be doing tommorrow.

Ya... was going to say. Pads are built in with a wear indicator that squeels when moderate pressure is applied to the rotor. So if you hear that at the next red light, tell the person they need new pads.
