another violent vibration at 110mph
Hey guys, I used o have a horrible vibration at aroudn like 95mph and i traced it down to the idler arm, i replaced it and now the car is fine until like i'd say 105-110, it has a violent vibration like threw the whole car. I slashed a front tire on a curb on easter and i had to get new front tires so i know its not the balance cause they still do it. does anyone know of anything that i could check??oh yea, when i have the car up on jacks with the front wheels in the air i can move the wheel in the directions in turns a little, it got alot better when i did the idler but it still does it a little. should it do it at all or is something worn? thanks

If you have the steel driveshaft, it could it be the driveshaft is out of balance. And have to checked the tie rods and ball joints for wear?

If the steel shaft is still balanced it will be fine(no shake on my 82 from 0 to 5000rpm in OD). Since you say it's more through the 'whole' car, I would look at the rear stuff. In my experience, what you describe is usually a bad tire, out of balance tire, bent wheel, bent axle. A front end problem is usually felt much more in the steering wheel than the seat(whole car).

1)driveshaft
2)bad u-joints
3)tire/wheel out of balance
4)lower speed rated tires (note; tires with lower speed ratings can be fine at 80mph but may warp out of balance at over 100mph)
5) bad axle bearings/bad pinion bearing
6) bad road surface
7)wrong pinion angle
8)inferior dampen shocks
any one of these will cause vibration
