No power in the power steering

Today i rebuilt my power steering , because it was leaking around the seal where the resevoir and the pump contacts. I put the pump back in and turn the pulley counter-clockwise to prime it according to Haynes manual, and when i tested it, there was no power steering the steering wheel barely moves left and right. Anybody ever had anything like this happen to them or know whats wrong please share it with me...

btw its a 84 trans am 305 stock a4

The pump might be leaking internally.

How hard was the pump to rebuild? Mine is shot. My original pump's front seal was leaking, and I kept the pump, intending to rebuild it myself. I bought a junkyard one that lasted a week before doing what yours does; no power steering unless I rev the motor up. I have to double-foot-it around parking lot turns.

Those p/s pulley pullers aren't that expensive... seems like if I bought one and a rebuild kit, it'd be less money then buying a rebuilt pump from a parts store.

the pumps seem to be very cheap , I'll say go to autozone and get a already rebuilt one.

look at autozone's website to see how much it is (it's currently down , otherwise I would tell you).

I tried to rebuilt it again today, but i guess it was shot cause it didnt do nothin again, so i bought one at advance auto put it in and that one was leaking I had to take it out and get my refund and headed to autozone across da street for 50 bucks and this one works good; no leaks so far:lala:

One thing though..is the steering suppose to be alil tight after a new pump is installed and after a few miles of driving it eases up or is the pump another defect

just a thought but jack the front end up and make sure you have steering then.

Martin, I asked a guy at Pep Boys (yeah, yeah, I know, dumb move, haha) about the price; he told me $70. I'll check autozone's price later. But for $70, I can get the rebuild kit, buy a p/s pulley remover/installer tool, AND go out for a steak and a few beers.

Plus, my original p/s pump lasted over 200,000 miles. I kinda feel guilty just throwing it away
