stabilizer bar problems
stabilizer bar problems
i have a 85 trans am and im puttin tubing frame and a powerglide transmission in it and i have no idea what to do about a stabilizer bar.i had a idea i was thinking that i might could get a peice of tubing to weld along the part of the underside of the car where the original stabilizer bar went but i will weld it along both sides of the driveshaft instead of just one side like the original bar went and weld the other side of the tubing to the rearend .does anyone know if this would work or if it wont does anyone have any other ideas.

Easiest thing to do would be to buy an aftermarket torque arm. Look at Spohn (sponsor link at the top of this page), BMR, etc.
You could also use some other rear end housing, and a 4-link or ladder bars.
Trying to weld something to the rear end would be a great way to die in your car halfway down the track, when it comes apart at 100 miles an hour; not to mention what a PITA it would be to ever have to work on anything in that part of the car.

i think you are talking about the torque arm, if so, no welding it on both ends won't work, you have to have some front/rear movment in the torque arm, that is why the front mount is a slip mount.
you might be able to get an aftermarket toque arm (SPOHN) but i don't know if he makes a powerglide crossmember or not.
the other thing you could do , if find a way to move the factory mount off tranny, and make your own bracket to mount the factory bushing to the frame.
