Rear Axle Moving?

When i first got my car a few years ago it felt like the rear of the car was moving left to right a little bit. but i figured it was probably just me not being used to the car yet. but a couple of weeks ago i noticed somthing on my drivers rear well inside. you know how there is some kind of black coating inside the wheel well i think it rubber anyways........well i noticed that there was a bare spot where the tire has been rubbing on it. the tire has rubed through the coating, paint, and now on to metal.. could the cause of this be the control arms? oh and my tires are not wide enough to cause the rubbing.

if the control arm is not connected to the rear end that would cause the rear end to be pushed back alittle and would cause that kinda rubbing.

how low is that side of the car? could be rubbing when u hit bumps do to a very bad spring.

but if the rear end is moving left to right, i would check the panhard bar which connects to the passengers side frame mount and mount accoss to the drivers side rear end mount.

that would definitely not help if for some reason it came loose and the rear end is able to flex left to right all the time.
