Well I have searched through the boards, did searches and I have not come across the answer I have been looking for exactly...
My problem is with my passenger side rear caliper.... a few weeks ago I changed the brake pads on all four corners of my 87 IROC...three of the corners were fine (new calipers on the front).
The drivers side rear caliper rachetted back using that special tool thing but when I tried the passenger side it would not move...tried the tool and it wouldn't budge the piston.. no way would it turn back... I managed to push it back just enough so I could get my new pads on but I knew this was not right and a matter of time before something would screw up on me...
Well since that time I have not driven my car very far...between this and that I never drove her too far.
This evening I took her on a long run with some good braking involved and when I got home I could smell that tell tale smell of overheated brake pads..Sure enough, put my hand to the rim and it was very hot to the touch..the caliper was even hotter.
So here is my question...
My Park Brake has never worked and I am not planning on messing with it... So can I use a set of front calipers on the rear?
Last time I checked a set of replacement rear calipers for my car was about $150 per caliper.. Now since whatever I do with the passenger side I will reflect on the drivers side (no sense making everything new on one side and not the other) I don't really want to spend $300 plus taxes on two calipers...
What are my options here?

You say your parking brake has never worked, which makes me believe that you need the recall kit. Don't bother dumping $$ for new rear calipers; you'll probably get the same mess back. Read this message for full details: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=78725
I found myself a set of new calipers for $79 Can each so I ordered the set... just as well go brand new than rebuild in my mind...
I called my GM Dealer and they have the kit for $89 Can (plus taxes) but has to be ordered in....So if I ever decide to rebuild my stock calipers I will pick up this set...
As for my parking brake... it is seized up in the tunnel somwhere and the lever actually works just that the piston is now seized in the "out" position...

Okay, but just be careful; like was brought out in that message I gave a link to, a few people (including me) got new calipers that didn't work. Are these brand new from GM, or are they remanufacatured units? My "new" rebuilt one from Pep Boys was US$70.
I thought gmpartsdirect.com shipped to Canada? No? Bummer.

As far as I know they are aftermarket new calipers and not re-built but I will check with the guy tomorrow... I am getting these from a local autoparts store which carry all the big names....he gets good gear and everything that I have bought from him so far has been great quality...Originally posted by TomP

Guess time will tell but they have to be better than what there now

I will post again when I get everything back on...
I called the parts store and found out that the calipers I ordered are re-built calipers... they are Fenco re-builds...
Only the castings are re-used and all the other parts are new so I am thinking these will do fine....
No BAER system though

My ebrake is also weird. It comes up only a few clicks, but it does not hold the car for anything. My old 86 with drums used to hold better. Any ideas? I have the PBR rears?
Thanks guys
