this may sound like a dumb question but whats the difreance between quick ratio and a regular gear box?
would an 87 ta have one?

quick ratio steering = a lower turning radius. IROC boxes are usuallu 2.5 turns lock to lock, whereas RS boxes are 3.5 lock to lock. and if you to see if that T/A has one, check the RPO codes in the center console.

When you're in the junkyards and find an IROC, check the box's casting number. It'll be 26000525, and will have a "Z" next to the number. That's the box for 16" wheels.
There was a quick ratio box for 15" wheels. Casting number will be 7826692.
Normal boxes are 2.5 turns lock-to-lock, quick-ratio boxes are 2.25 turns lock-to-lock. Never heard of a 3.5 turn box...?
The 16" wheel box supposedly has different internal stops to prevent the tires from rubbing the inner fenders on tight turns. This would only affect parking lots and K-turns and U-turns; you might have to do some extra maneuvering.
The data I saved from the f-body.org mailing list -years- ago said that the 16" wheel box locks at 2 turns instead of the 15 inch's 2.2 turns, but the actual steering ratio is the same. Can anyone verify this info?
