Rubbing...

My car was wrecked when I got it...I rebuilt the whole body And found the Passenger side wheel was back almost an inch farther then the driver side. I adjusted the toe enough to where I am not wearing tires at all. But now I want to put 17s on my car and am afraid they are goin to rub. I had the car up on a lift and found where the control arm mounts to the subframe is bent. Do you think I could get a straight control arm and new bushings and it would equal out enough. I am afraid of what professionally getting this fixed would cost. Any other suggestions would really help! Thanks!

It all depends. You said that where the control arm mounts to the subframe is bent. Is the control arm bent, or is it the subframe. If it is the control arm then you should be OK with a newer one, but if it is the crossmember then you have to get that fixed. My car was hit pretty hard and the crossmember is what bent, not the control arm.

I am curious as to how the car rides and handles. Also, the 17's shouldn't be any bigger if you size the tires correctly. So rubbung shouldn't be an issue, but I think you should still fix it.

After adjusting toe the car handles and drives fine and doesn't pull to either side. Only thing I noticed is on really hard turns it is kind of funky because of the caster being so off. This is mainly during U Turns and Manuvering parking lots. I think the Arm and the mounting point are both a little off. The car was run into a ditch @ about 70 mph by a kid up the road. Right now I have 205/60/15s and they come somewhat close on the rubbing...And I'm really not sure If I want to run 35 series rubber bands on the front either.

Listen just a word of encouragement, there are a lot of guys out there who would freak about having a car with frame damage. Let me tell you, I've wrecked enough race cars to know that frame machines are wonderful things, in fact, if you put a NEW car on a frame machine, you might be surprised at how wanged-out (technical term) that they are, good luck in your endeavor.
