I was doing some research and I couldn't find a definite answer but what is the widest tire that could fit a 92 Z28 (both up front and out back) without breaking out the hammer and without rubbing... and how wide of a rim would work and how much, if any, offset would I need.
If it matters I was looking to have 15-16" in the rear and 16-17" upfront (maybe even 18" 's, if im feeling dangerous) american racing salt flat specials or ar23's. I really like that drag car look with as much rubber as possible on the back and thin up front. And Thanks!!!!!!!!

If you want the rears tucked, 285 maybe 295 is about the limit. Front's, I've had 255's just brush here and there but see a lot of folks do 275's with no complaints. A lot depends on whether it's lowered or not and wheel offset.

 

Both wheels are ugly...

You can fit a 275-40-17 tire all around with the right offset on a 17" x 9.5" wheel. And you can fit a 295 easily on a 10.5" wheel - a few members here have them.

Keep in mind there are very limited tire choices in 16" except for the 225-55-16 size, 15" is no problem, nor is 17"...

 

Yeah as Paul said, doesnt matter how wide your 16 inch wheel is, you're gonna find hardly anything out there wider than a 245 with the exception of a few 255's unless you're purely talking about drag radials.

 

I run 285/40/17 front and rear. In The rear I still have plenty of room to go wider. The front is a little tighter but it works just fine. If you don't want the fronts to rub at full lock pick a tire size that's no taller than 26" and/or try to keep the scrub radius as small as possible. You will be able to tuck an 18" wheel more than a 17" up front because of interference between the inner wheel lip and strut housing on a 17".

The aluminum AR-23 in 15" only come in a 3.75 bs. The widest wheel you can run on the rear with it is a 8" with the widest tire you can run on the 15x8 rears, keeping the bulge flush with the flair and the tread just inside the well is a 255/60r15.

Ron, your car needs a drop something fierce. Something about the whole combo just makes it look like its way too high off the ground. The rest of the car is fantastic. Not what I would do with mine but hte look is cohesive enough taht with a 1 inch drop I think you'd start dropping a lot of panties with it... or at least a lot of manties.


ANd those salt flat special wheels belong on much older cars. They dont suit our cars at all. Ive seen them look decent on a 69 Camaro.... but to me they're for two lane blacktop style 50's street-strip lead sled type cars.

 

I'm surprised no one else has said it...bigger wheels in the front than the back? no. I wouldn't do it. If you want less sidewall on the front tires, get a smaller tires with the same diameter wheel. I think the car would look like it cant decide which end is the front and which end is the back with a larger diameter wheel up front.

 

Well like he said at the end of his first post...he likes the look of the drag setup. But if you plan of driving this car on the street for any good time, I would highly recommend you not do large skinny in the front. Handling sucks with that. I run "0" offset American Racing Daytona's in 18 all the way around with Bridgestone 255/40 Z18 street drags radial all the way around. I hug the road like I am on rails. How wide you decide go will be purely determined by offset, how wide the rim is, how much tire you want sticking out, and if you ever plan on dropping it some. Show pics once you decide which way you go.

 

I haven't decided what I'm going to do to the suspension yet, but that and the interior are going to get the attention they need. I'm putting some things on paper now so its just a mater of time when the money will be available.

Just a little side note =
This is my very first time working on any car really so I had to wing it allot.I had not even heard of Third Gen.org at the time so things like BS were totally alien to me. So far Ive taken a $500.00 car pulled out of some guys back yard and put allot sweat into it. And with the help on this sit I came to enjoy every minute it. Thanks

 

Ron, what are your thoughts for your interior? I am going to post some more pics of my customized door panels and armrests. Check out my pics that are loaded to see a little bit of it so far. I just replaced my red carpet with a new black setup. My next step is replacing body panels and working on a sweet paint scheme.

 

All the rubber you will ever need for the street is 275s rear and 245s front, unless you doing Road course/ drag racing strip.
