gear box question

Ok most places have a different part number for a trans am and firebird. Will all third gen gear boxes fit on any thirdgen car, or is there different mounting holes, or shaft angle or anything, I am assuming that the T/A part number is the quickratio, and the firebird is the base box. I think I will compair the part numbers with the irock gear box.

Any info will help,

physically they're all the same, they'll bolt up. as you most likely know so will a S10 box and even a box off a 1st gen. i'm sure there is a lot more interchangeabilty as well. it'd be stupid and costly for gm to make a differant box and bolt pattern for every application.

ok, here's one I could use some help on. The t5 in my 83 Z28 broke the o.d and basically trashed the whole trans, one from an s-10 was installed (about an 88) I was not the owner when all of this took place. Any help with gear ratios?
