Adjusting height of Idler Arm on 3rd gen?
Adjusting height of Idler Arm on 3rd gen?
I wanted to double-check some work I jsut did when installing an new idler arm on a 92 Camaro. There are elongated slots in the frame where the idler arm bolts on. Obviously, there is an adjustment to be done. I installed the arm at a height that made the centerlink PARALLELL with the frame, side-to-side. In other words, LEVEL side-to-side across the car, using the lower A-arm bolts as a reference point . This put the idler arm bolts near the top of their adjustement range in the frame holes (very slightly higher in the slots than the original factory-installed idler arm).
Is this the correct geometry to shoot for? I am going to have it aligned but I want this to be right before I do. I doubt an alignment shop is going to take the time to adjust the idler arm height when they do the aligment.

There's a flat spot machined onto the bottom of the center link at each end below the tie-rod bolt holes. Measure the drop from the center of the control arm bolt to the flat....get them the same on both sides and you're set.
