I just read in GMHTP that only synthetic grease is to be used with poly bushings. This would have been good to know before I greased up all my stuff 2 weeks ago. Will conventional grease cause problems or just squeak a little?

i use the stuff spohn sells. its a pretty good price and fits a full sized greese gun.

I really like the energy suspension synthetic grease. It is much stickier then the spohn stuff so it last longer without squeaking.

Really? I am very confused now. I just went out to my garage and took out the little yellow capsules that the energy suspension grease came in with my poly busing kit. This stuff feels completely different then the spohn stuff. I might very well be wrong but the stuff that came with my energy suspension kit seems much more “tacky”. Is it possible that the grease that comes in there kits is different or something?

I agree, the ES "stuff" feels a lot more tacky to the touch, but I also use the lube Steve Spohn sells and I have NO squeaks.

That's cool and all, but mine are already packed full of conventional grease. What I'm trying to figure out is if this stuff is going to magically turn my poly bushings into gelatinous goo, or if it's ok to just leave it there until next time I grease them.

I guess I'll be the ginuea pig. I'm not ripping the rear suspension apart to clean the grease off, so we'll see how long the poly holds up.

I to used conventional grease when I first installed my ES poly bushings, 3 years later still no problems and no squeaks. I even took out my panhard bar the other day to install a new fuel pump and the bushings still look new.

from what i understand, you will have to regrease more often, but it wont hurt the poly bushings....

I was told that the conventional grease will brake down the poly bushings much like some conventional oils will brake down some types of rubber. But I’ve use conventional grease for three years and pulled the bushings apart this spring and could tell no difference in the bushings. They where just as stiff as when I put then in. It may be that “some” conventional greases have a little different makeup so some will be a problem and others wouldn’t.
I don’t think this is one of those things that we can just make a blanket “It’s OK” or “It’s not OK” statement about.
