I Want New Suspension Components

Hi everyone,

I suppose I could leaf down through all of the posts and extrapolate the information and feedback that I want, but I am too lazy for that and will just ask everyone for their opinion.

The car: 1992 Camaro RS convertible 305 TBI automatic.

I would like opinions on the best suspension components, and not the best budget buster components. I would like to know what guys are running for shocks, struts and springs.

Anyone using a strut tower brace impressed? Other aftermarket pieces?

Thanks for your input.

Steve

i am running ws6 springs, and tociko illumina shocks/struts. i just put them on this weekend, but so far i really like them, i am autp-x'ing this weekend, so i will know how they do then.

the STB is a nice addition, any brand will do, since you have a TBI, the edelbrock 3point is a very nice peice.

also, athough you didn't mention it i will. unless you want to run Auto-X in a class other than CP, GET SUB FRAME CONNECTORS, it is the best mod you can do.

!st thing since its a convertable get some subframe connectors from Top Down solutions, look up :-) Then depending if you like a stiff ride go to spohn and get the bushing kit, urethane bushings. If not go to the dealer and get some new rubber ones. If you car didn't come with one get a "wonder bar" steering brace. and a strut tower brace. This will make the chasis stiff and let the suspension do its job. As for shocks and structs and springs I am running factory/factory replacements. I don't race my car competitively so I have no need for $500 shocks, and my car still holds as good as my friends E30 M3 with a race suspension, 3 in drop and 17" wheels, well that is dry, wet he get better traction comming out of the turns(that may be the 1200 in rubber on his car though). But then I out HP him in the straights and take him back. Now I can't run the same line as he does but he can't maintain my line either, Im talking a small varance in the line.

Anything factory use Z28 or WS6 parts:

Suspension mods

Hi all,

I am curious about the strut tower brace. I have seen them in my "Year One" catalog, and specifically the Edelbrock version. With the TBI, and the fact that I have a 14" chrome air cleaner, will the STB still work with that? Are there modifications to be made with the installation of that piece?? More info, please!!

Wonderbar? I have seen them on eBay. Where exactly do they mount? Where would I look on my car to see if I have one installed?

Thanks guys!

only modifications are drilling holes for it to mount.

yes it will work fine with your 14" air cleaner.

wonderbar, is a brace that ties the two front frame rails together. it mounts under your front sway bar bushings. TDS sells a very nice unit, if you are looking for one. do a search for 'wonderbar' you will be amazed at the number of results you get.

also, back to shocks, i know the person mentioned $500 shocks, and well i see his point, i would like to mention that shocks and struts really make a HUGE diffrence in car, if you are already spending $300, why not spend another $100 or $200 and get something really nice. it is like building this great engine, and then puting a peanut cam in it.

Yea you have a point the shocks/struts are very important parts. But I would suggest getting the chasis stiff before sinking any money in the moving suspension, unless your components are just shot. I mean the difference between factory style struts and shocks would be just a few seconds off of the high end ones on a road course with two compariable drivers and other wise same suspension and tires.

But once you get the chasis thight you will feel the car handle much better, actually transfer weight evenly and less nose dive under brakeing. Then Since you are in a rs convertable I would go to the very least Z28 Springs, or if you can find them some !LE springs. Or if you like to go lower the pro kit is good(thats my next mod). Then you will really need a adjustable tourque arm and track bar (spohn is good) you will need this to re center the rear and adjust the pinion angle for a lower car. This will also move the mount to the car not the transmission if you get one with a crossmember.

And you will see an improvement with the STB, and steering brace. But one of the bigest improvements will be in the SFC's Just make sure you weld in the SFC's. the wonder bar and STB will bolt in.

Are you planing on raceing the car, I didn't think most tracks would let a convertable in. If not remember not to go to stiff on the items you put in.
