what tires?

i have an 86 z28 with 15x8 rims and factory spacing what tires would you recommend for the best cornering and straight line traction in wet and dry conditions? i would like the widest tire without rubbing and a little lower then stock hight. i know this question has been asked alot but im curious as to my application

If I were you I would try and find some inexpensive 16s. Then you could run a variety of 245/50s. With 15 wheels you will be limited in some ways. You could fit a 245/60-15 on those wheels but I can't say if it will fit in the wheel wells without rubbing. Also can't say if it is shorter than stock height. They don't make a whole lot of higher speed rated tyres for 15" wheels...
