What does your buddy say they're weak compared to? $600 Bilsteins? If your current units are shot (and any original factory shock/strut on an 82-92 f-body will be shot by now), you'll notice an improvement with any shock/strut you put on.
I ran the Monroe Sensatrac struts for a while, they were great until they wore out. Now I'm using KYB GR-2 struts and Gas-A-Just rear shocks. KYB also makes the AGX front strut, an adjustable unit, find it at http://www.summitracing.com . But with the roads around Jersey, I figure why spend $100/strut just to have it get beat to hell on bad roads, that's why I spent $50/strut for the KYB's.
