putting early disc's on an early drum rear???

car is an 86 z28, originally had a 10 bolt drum rear. i swapped that for a 9 bolt with discs. Well i blew the 9 bolt up a couple weeks ago so i'm trying to put the 10 bolt back in. I had planned to simply swap the 10 bolt to disc, that way i didn't have to change the lines, and prop. valve and all that again... seems easy enough....

so heres my dilemna, i got to put the disc brake backing plates from the 9 bolt on the 10 bolt, and they arent even close to fitting on the flange. I can see that the top of the flange will have to be cut, which is no big deal. The big problem i'm having is that the existing bottom 2 holes on the flange don't match up to the backing plate, and the flange doesn't appear big enough to drill new holes where they need to be.

has anyone done this swap? what do i need to do to make this work?

Eric

man why the hell didn't i think of that. that looks like it works perfectly.

I just wonder if my welder is up to that task. what type of metal are those backing plates?
